All Natural Advantage Skin Care Products and Recipes

All natural advantage skin care products and recipes for dry itchy skin and other skin problems from herbs to other natural ingredients.

Herbs have been around since the beginning of time and have been used through the centuries for many different purposes in day to day living. Nature gives us so much for healthy living, why would you want to spend a fortune on man made products that can be harmful? Our family has found many natural alternatives to man made products such as natural soaps, lotions, medicines, household cleaners, potpourri, and decorations.

Warning:

Herbs are 100% natural. However, when used in excess, herbs can be dangerous. If you are pregnant, nursing or taking prescription drugs, consult your doctor before using any herbal remedies.

Many medicines that are prescribed by your doctor are made from chemicals found in plants. It is a known fact that mixing medicines and/or herbs can be dangerous. Because of this, it is recommended that you treat only one illness at a time. It is also advised that you start with small doses to see if there will be any allergic reactions. Herbs are best used to prevent illness or to treat symptoms, not for treating major or long standing conditions. If any symptoms last for more than a week, discontinue use of herbs and consult a physician

Herbal Basics- Infusion

Making an infusion is as simple as making an herbal tea and is the basis of many herbal recipes. An infusion is used internally or externally for many conditions one may have. Extra or leftover infusion may be stored in the refrigerator for one to two days. After two days it is advised that you make a fresh infusion.

TO MAKE: Use 3 to 3.5 ounces fresh herbs. Place herbs in a warmed tea pot. Take 2.5 cups water that has just begun to boil and pour over herbs. Cover and leave to infuse for 9-12 minutes, then strain.

Take up to 3 times a day. May be taken hot or cold and may be sweetened with honey. Take no more that 6 ounces for each dose.

Poultice

Warm weather brings insects. Those little critters can really bite and sting! A poultice will help soothe the stinging and burning sensation that those little critters leave behind.

A poultice is used externally to an affected area of your body. To make a poultice you will need to chop your herbs and place into a bowl*. Pour boiling water over the herbs and leave til just cool enough to handle.

Remove herbs from liquid and squeeze out excess water. Now place the herbs on the affected area and wrap with gauze or clean cotton strips.

What to use in a poultice:

lavender, or calendula petals or the bruised leaves of Queen Annes Lace

*Garlic clove or an onion slice work well, however the smell is not so great.

Moisturizer

Our skin needs some extra help to stay young and healthy looking as we grow older. The skin takes a beating from the natural elements of sun, wind and rain every day. You can put moisture back into your skin and keep it there naturally, with a mixture of herbal infusion and lanolin.

Use an infusion made from one or a combination of the following herbs:

lemon balm

lemon grass

sage

dandelion

lavender

My personal preference is a lemon balm and sage infusion, but there are many women that prefer just lavender. It really is a matter of preference and what works best for you.

Mix:

1/2 cup infusion, 4 tablespoons lanolin (glycerin may be substituted)

That's all there is to it! This recipe can be doubled or cut in half depending on the number of users. What is left after a week needs to be thrown away. Remember that all natural means NO PRESERVATIVES. This moisturizer can be used everyday by the whole family. Enjoy!

Natural Conditioning Hair Rinse

This is an acid rinse that should be used after shampooing your hair. It will help maintain the natural Ph balance your hair needs to look and feel healthy. This will help keep scalp from becoming dry and itchy.

To make your herbal hair rinse for conditioning you will need to add 2 tablespoons vinegar to 2.5 cups herbal infusion.

Herbs for conditioning hair:

Lavender

Nettle

Sage

Rosemary

Soothing Bath

Bath salts are easy to make, great for gifts, make you feel good, and are good for you. What more could you ask for in a single product? I realize that bath salts are not made from herbs, but they are natural and are easy enough for a child to make to give as gift.

The main ingredient of bath salts is Epsom salt. Though Epsom salt is not an herb, it is a pure, natural mineral known as magnesium sulfate. Epsom salt helps to reduce swelling and ease muscle ache pain, is a laxative and is also a natural skin softener.

Epsom salt can be purchased for about a dollar for four pounds and can be found in most discount stores or pharmacies. You can then pour the salts into decorated bottles or jars and you have an instant gift. If you would like to add some nice touches to your gift you can put in a couple drops each of food coloring and scented oil. When adding oil or food coloring, be sure to shake well to work oil and coloring thru all the salts. Leave container open for a day or two so the salts can dry.

Here is a easy recipe that you can make for yourself, family, or friends. This makes a large quantity, but it is great for skin rashes, blemishes, along with muscle ache pain and also helps to de-toxin skin.

INGREDIENTS:

4 pound box or bag of Epsom salt

1/2 pound sea salt

3 pounds baking soda

1 Cup oats

optional additives:

2 drops food coloring (use as much as desired to get the color effect you want, but be sure to dry well, so there is no clumping)

2 drops fragrant oil

1/2 cup dried lemon balm

contents of 4 vitamin E gel caps

Mix Epsom salt, sea salt and baking soda in large bowl or as I prefer, in a gallon size jar. The oats need to be put in the blender to be ground into a powder. Once this is done you can add the oats to jar also.

Now is the time to add the optional additives. We have a preference for the lemon balm and the vitamin E. The lemon balm needs to be dry and placed in the blender to form a powder. For the vitamin E you will need to poke a hole into the gel cap and squeeze the contents out. Be sure to mix thoroughly. Now you can add food coloring. Stir or shake thoroughly.

Remember to use only a few drops of each of your wet ingredients or you will cause your salts to become lumpy. Shake or stir thoroughly between each wet ingredient. Also leave jar open for a couple of days to allow salts to completely dry before putting the lid on.

Powder

To keep dry naturally through the hot summer months use cornstarch in place of your commercial after bath powder. You will keep dry without the added perfumes.

You will feel better just knowing how much you saved making these products at home and they do work. Herbs are easy to grow, after all they are the weeds that you have been trying to kill for years. Many can be grown inside your home in pots and they look lovely when in bloom.

You are now on your way to a more natural way of life. If you want to find out more about herbs or living naturally you will find much more in the public libraries and internet. Anything you want to know about is only a click away.

Learn about natural skin care

Learn about natural skin care! Using natural facial techniques, you can learn how to take care of your skin for a rewarding complexion and healthy beautiful skin.
Beautiful skin can be achieved no matter what skin type you have if you observe some basic steps.

DRINK WATER AND EXERCISE

Top Models who are paid well for keeping up their appearance will all admit that drinking a minimum of 6-8 glassed of water and day and eating lots of raw fruits and vegetables is essential to keep their skin soft and glowing.

Exercising your facial muscles and tissues are also important in keeping your skin toned and exhibiting less stress and wrinkle lines.

CLEANSING

Twice a day, professionals recommend that you gently wash your face with a good cleanser using upward, circular strokes. This step does not have to take long but it is important to achieving healthily skin.

DRY BRUSH CLEANSING TECHNIQUE

Another method that will help keep your pores clean is to treat your skin to a dry brush technique. Used by professional beauty consultants, dry brushing is a good way to begin your own home facial. You will need a natural fiber brush and most are available commercially with a handle. Start very gently and work your way over your face to remove dead skin cells and other impurities.

FACIAL SCRUB

To make your own deep pore cleansing facial scrub blend 1 Tablespoon honey with 1/4 medium cucumber that has been peeled. Mix the ingredients in a blender until smooth and add a small amount of water if needed. Strain the mixture and remove the vegetable and honey mixture into a small bowl. Add the following mixed meals to the liquid

1 teaspoon almond meal, 1 teaspoon seed meal, 1 teaspoon ground oatmeal, 1 teaspoon sunflower seed meal, 1 teaspoon wheat germ. This should form a smooth past for a gentle scrub. Follow up this treatment with a moisturizer.

TONING AND Ph LEVEL

Astringents and toners are designed to remove any left over dirt that the cleansing process has left behind and to help restore your skin to its normal acid pH.

The pH of soaps, shampoos and facial astringents refer to the acidity or alkalinity of the product you are using. Toners help to prevent bacteria from penetrating your skin and making it flake and become dry which occurs when your skin is too alkaline. All skin types should purchase products with a pH level in the range of 4.5 to 6.

FACIAL STEAMS

A herbal facial steam is another good way to soften your skin and allow your pores to breath and release toxins. Boil three cups of distilled water and remove it from the heat before adding the following herbs. Add 1 teaspoons Calendula, 1 teaspoon Chamomile, 1 teaspoon Raspberry leaves and 1 teaspoon Peppermint. After the herbs have seeped for about 10 minutes, use a hand-towel to create a tent over your head and shoulders. Close your eyes, breath in deeply and relax!

After a facial steam, you could continue your facial with a mask and moisturizer to benefit the most from your treatments.

CLEANSING MASKS

Masks date back to several ancient civilizations using mud, clay, yeast and natural herbs that they believed had healing properties. You can make your own cleansing mask by mixing 1 egg white and 1 teaspoon cornstarch. Beat the mixture until it has stiff peaks and smooth it onto your face until it dries. Your skin will feel firm like a mini face-lift!

MOISTURIZING

Acting as a barrier between your skin and the environment you live in, moisturizers are an important way to hydrate your skin. Moisturizers should be applied to an already moist face and throat in the same upward direction you apply your cleanser.

You can make your own Citrus Moisturizer with 1 cup distilled water and 6 teaspoons glycerin stored in a bottle or spritzer. Add 8 drops of Lemon oil and equal parts of Orange Blossom essential oil.

These natural facial techniques can help you take care of your skin for a rewarding complexion.
